XAT was conducted on 7th January 2007 all over India.
The pattern of the paper was 130 questions with three sections: Logical Reasoning + Management Decision Making(40 questions); Verbal Ability(41); Quantitative Ability + Data Interpretation(49) with total time of 120minutes.
There were 5 answer options for each question and they carried 1 mark for correct answer. There were 0.
33 negative marks for the first 5 wrong answers and 0.5 for all wrong answers beyond that. Also there was essay writing for 20minutes on Economic growth without environmental damage - a mirage or a reality.
Introduction of 'Management Decision Making' questions involving Case studies was new in the paper.
There were four sets of analytical reasoning and 3 stand alone questions.
There were 4 business case-studies in Management Decision Making. Attempting 15-17 questions fetching 13+ marks is good score in the section.
The cut off in verbal ability is expected to be around 10+.
There were 23 questions in reading comprehension and 18 in English usage.
RC consisted of 5 passages with questions in varied difficulty levels.
The 18 Q's consisted of 5 Q's on Critical Reasoning, 4 Q's on Para jumbles (6-sentence type), 5 Q's on contextual usage of words and 4 Q's on Grammar and Usage.
A good attempt in this section is 18 question. The quants section had a mix of Quant (32 Q's), Data Interpretation (13 Q's) and Data Sufficiency (4 Q's).
Many questions were from algebra, numbers, geometry.
There were four sets of DI out of which three were calculation intensive, the other Bar chart was doable. 2 out of the 4 Data Sufficiency questions could have been attempted.
15-17 attempts in the section and scoring 8+ is considered to be good.
Overall total of 31+ marks is considered to be a good score.
